About the Design
In 2002, Terry Alexander, Joe Bryl, and Donnie Madia opened Sonotheque at 1444 W Chicago Ave. In its 7 year run Sonotheque played a central role in Chicago’s dance-culture renaissance. With one of the best sound systems in the world, Sonotheque was an exercise in extreme variety. On any given night you could hear bhangra, boogaloo, disco, funk, house, hip hop, reggae, and tropicalia, often accompanied by experimental films projected over the bar.
